Post-Op Instructions

Tibial Tubercle Transfer

1. You must keep the brace on, in a locked, or fully extended position, at all times for the first six weeks after your surgery.

2. Please use your crutches at all times, as you are not to weight bear at any time.


Tibial Osteotomy

1. You must keep the brace on, in a locked, or fully extended position, at all times for the first six weeks after your surgery.

2. Please use your crutches at all times, as you are not to weight bear at any time.


Shoulder Scope (SAD, Mumford)

1. Special waterproof bandages have been applied to your incisions. You may leave these in place until your first visit. Also, you may shower starting the day after surgery with these special bandages.

2. You have also been fitted with a Polar-Care device, which circulates cold water around your shoulder for pain relief and control of post-operative swelling. You may use this device continuously for the first three to five days and then as needed thereafter. You will need to fill the thermos with ice water as necessary.


Rotator Cuff Surgery

1. Special waterproof bandages have been applied to your incisions. You may leave these in place until your first visit. Also, you may shower starting the day after surgery with these special bandages.

2. You have also been fitted with a Polar-Care device, which circulates cold water around your shoulder for pain relief and control of post-operative swelling. You may use this device continuously for the first three to five days and then as needed thereafter. You will need to fill the thermos with ice water as necessary.


Quadriceps Tendon Repair

1. You must keep the brace on, in a locked, or fully extended position, at all times for the first six weeks after your surgery.

2. Please use your crutches at all times, as you are not to fully bear weight at any time.


Meniscal Transplant Surgery

1. The incisions are covered with waterproof bandages. You can shower the day after surgery and thereafter by keeping these special bandages on. If necessary, you may remove the bandages and apply Band-Aids to the incisions. An ace-wrap is optional.


Ligament (Labral/Capsule) Repair Surgery

1. Special waterproof bandages have been applied to your incisions. You may leave these in place until your first visit. Also, you may shower starting the day after surgery with these special bandages.

2. You have also been fitted with a Polar-Care device which circulates cold water around your shoulder for pain relief and control of post-operative swelling. You may use this device continuously for the first three to five days and then as needed thereafter. You will need to fill the thermos with ice water as necessary.


Knee Arthroscopy

1. 1. The incisions are covered with waterproof bandages. You can shower the day after surgery and thereafter by keeping these special bandages on. If necessary, you may remove the bandages and apply Band-Aids to the incisions. An ace-wrap is optional.

2. You may walk on the operated leg and bear weight as tolerated. Crutches or a cane (placed in the opposite hand) are most helpful in this regard.


Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

1. You have just undergone major knee ligamentous reconstruction surgery and our initial goal will be to control your discomfort and increase your range of motion as well as keep the swelling of your knee to a minimum. You will be using two different machines for this purpose.
